MARCH EVENTS

3/23/25

PALOMAR FLYERS COMING EVENTS FOR MARCH

March 22nd

Thank you to Vic Lerum and his Jet Fun Fly committee of Tom Pollinger, Cesar Fernandez, Ryan Plodowski, and Joe Villarreal  for putting together a great program.  Vic went way above and beyond expectations developing a written step-by-step plan on planning future events. With the input of our treasurer, Doug Abel, and webmaster, Richard Torres, a seamless documentation of all attendees,  purchase of raffle tickets, serving of lunch, and a profit and loss report was generated immediately after the event.  The entire club sends a big thank you for the event, as well as the program development.  The board will be meeting soon and I have a strong suspicion that the club will be using this format for all events in the future.

Below is a list of upcoming events:

April 5th:  Civil Air Patrol : Field will be closed from 9:00AM -12:00 PM

Also on April 5th:  Combat Field will be closed from 9:00 AM -12:00 PM

April 16 : Monthly Board Meeting

April 19    Monthly General Meeting Palomar Flyers--Special recognition to Chris Avellino and Curtis Kitteringham.  Also, our member and treasurer, Doug Abel, will be speaking on using 3-D printing for building RC models.

May 31st (DATE CHANGE) Boy Scouts outreach program 9-12  The field will be closed.

FAA Renewal

For those of you who are coming up on their FAA Registration renewal process, the FAA changed things slightly back in 2022 and now want an aircraft of some sort attached to the registration.

The AMA created a great article for the process, and they walk through, step by step, how to sign up and renew your FAA Registration all in one, at: https://amablog.modelaircraft.org/amagov/2022/08/09/update-to-the-faa-dronezone-and-registration-renewal-process/

Make sure you read through the process completely BEFORE you start, as you may need to skip certain steps if you are RENEWING your registration!!!

Find Us!

Flying Field

We have a 600'x40' asphalt runway, four separate helicopter pads, a pit area with tables and chairs, toilet facilities, plenty of parking, and an RV parking area (no facilities).

Johnson Field is located on about 70 acres on the Northeast corner of the intersection of I-15 and State Highway 76. We are about 16 miles North of Escondido on I-15. From I-15, take Highway 76 East towards Pala less than 1/2 mile and turn North on Pankey Rd. Enter the Palomar Flying site through the green gate. On weekdays, members must have a key to unlock the gate. The gate is open on weekends and holidays from about 8am to 1pm or when events are scheduled. The public is welcome to come and visit us during those hours. If you are interested in joining, come out anytime – mornings are the most active period. We have separate flying sites on the property devoted to RC airplanes and RC helicopters.

April

2025

We are still getting feedback regarding the HELI-FUN-FLY. The organizers of the event deserve congratulations for a job well done.

We received some really great news from Joe Villarreal regarding our stay at Johnson field. It looks like it’s possible we will remain here until June 2026! With that good news, we are still proceeding with the Valley Center site. Material has been purchased, and a build date is in the near future. Scott Ralston has done a terrific job of developing that site. If you have not been up there, you are missing out!
